Its finally here! Yes, this is for REAL. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti movie is out now and I couldn’t stop myself to write about it. It’s just isn’t a movie; it’s a rare Nigerian Film Industries masterpiece.

Directed by Bolanie Austen-Peters and written by none other than Tunde Babalola, this movie is about the remarkable journey of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, a pioneering women’s right activist in Nigeria whose legacy continues to inspire generations.

The movie shows the life of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti performed by 2024 AMVCA Best Actress, Kehinde Bankole. With every expression, gesture, and word she capture our attention and breathe life into the character. Her acting had a balance of all the elements like passion, determination, and especially an unwavering commitment to justice.

The actress and the activist share an uncanny resemblance and the fans couldn’t stop them to talk about it. From her early year, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti played an pivotal role in the lives of Abeokuta Women’s Union.

Kehinde portraying Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti mesmerized us all. She not only captured the complexities of the character, but also enabled the audience to really connect with the women behind the legend.

On the other hand, Iyimide Ayo-Olumoko played a young Funmilayo. Actress Joke Silva played the role of the aged activist. Other stars included famous names like Adunni Ade, Adebayo Salami, Omowunmi Dada, Jide Kosoko, Delete Odule, Ibrahim Suleiman, Bikiya Graham-Douglas, and Yewande Osamein.

Ibrahim Suleiman supports Kehinde, whose portrayal of Israel Ransome-Kuti, Funmilayo’s husband, added depth to the narratives. The actor also bring to life the support and unconditional love that Israel had for his wife, demonstrating the emotional nuances of their relationship with grace.

That said, Kehinde Bankole and Ibrahim Suleiman shared a wonderful chemistry on the silver screen, enhancing the film’s portrayal of the personal sacrifices made to pursue a greater good.

Overall the cinematography is breathtaking. You may expect to see amazing landscapes of Nigeria, the intimate moment shared by two characters, and lots of emotions invoking screens. The costumes, and set enhanced the overall experience.

Another key strengths of the movie was the combination of powerful dialogue and narrative arcs. Each point has been masterfully captured, from her early struggles to her triumphs as a fearless leader. Each scene is infused with emotions and meaning.

Lastly, the movie is more than just a biopic. It’s a statement of power of resilience, courage, and enduring legacy. It calls to the future generations to continue to work for the betterment of life conditions.
